Bio

Isabel Cisneros is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice operates at the intersection of letters, museology, and the fire arts. Educated at the Central University of Venezuela’s School of Letters and specialized in ceramics at the University of Lincoln (USA) and the Neumann Foundation, Cisneros has built an international career with exhibitions in Venezuela, Spain, and the United States.
Her career gained momentum in the 1990s at landmark venues like Sala Mendoza, evolving from ceramics toward a profound investigation of textiles and paper. Over three decades, she has received significant acclaim for her ability to transform industrial and discarded materials into organic structures. Her current work—including standout projects such as Traslaciones and Memoriar—explores flexible sculpture and assemblage, establishing her as a key figure in the contemporary reinterpretation of traditional women’s crafts and sensitive geometry.

Statement

The artistic proposal of Isabel Cisneros is rooted in the notion of flexibility and adaptation. She conceives the artwork as a living body that breathes through interconnections, utilizing geometry and mathematical calculation not as rigid ends, but as tools to orchestrate the chaos of hundreds of small pieces coexisting in tension. Her work establishes a constant dialogue between opposites: rigidity versus elasticity, and opacity against translucency.
Cisneros investigates affective memory and everyday life through the assemblage of diverse materials—clay, paper, textiles, and recycled elements—granting them a new language through weaving and the concept of symbolic "return." Her work serves as a tribute to the historical labor of women, revaluing interior and domestic spaces to transform them into a tactile experience. In her search, the material dictates its own fluidity, inviting the viewer to discover, amidst weaves and shadows, the record of a personal and collective history.
