Florencia Levy

Bio

Working through mutating methodologies that cross disciplines, his projects combine fieldwork, archival research, exchange, and dialogue with science. They unfold across multiple media—site-specific installations, video, photography, painting, and publications—and are developed in collaboration with communities and within specific contexts. His work addresses the tension between the invisible and material consistency, seeking to reveal forms of agency emerging from biological, economic, and sociopolitical processes. Currently, his research explores the relationships between geological time, the production of contemporary technology, and the geopolitical dynamics of extractivist practices.
He has received more than 40 awards and distinctions, including the Konex Award in Art and Technology, the Lichter Art Award (Germany), the Trabucco Prize (2020), and the Presidency of the Nation Prize at the 108th National Salon. He has participated in residencies across Europe, Asia, and the Americas and exhibited at institutions such as Frankfurter Kunstverein, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and the POLIN Museum in Warsaw. His work is held in collections including the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo Moderno, and Fundación Klemm.

Statement

Herencia de un gesto is a series of glazed ceramic pieces that depict human gestures performed on the surfaces of smartphones. Made with clay—a material that carries geological information accumulated over hundreds of thousands of years—these works also contain traces of metals such as gold, copper, and aluminum, along with dust from elements extracted from the interior of the phones themselves.
