Danny Esquenazi

Bio

Danny Esquenazi (Bogotá, Colombia) is an artist and industrial designer whose practice lies at the intersection of geometric abstraction and sensory experience. Trained at Hadassah College and the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, he has developed a body of work that seeks to transcend the static nature of the art object to actively engage the viewer. His international career includes participations in major art fairs such as ARTBO (Colombia), Pinta Miami, and Art Lima, with exhibitions in cities including Paris, Singapore, and Budapest. Recognized with honors such as the Florence Shanghai Prize and awards from Club El Nogal, his work is part of permanent collections at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogotá (MAC) and the Museum of Art of Tolima, establishing him as a key figure in the renewal of contemporary kinetic and participatory languages.

Statement

My work proposes a break from the rigidity of traditional geometry through a playful component that invites direct interaction. I view the artwork as a dynamic experience that is only completed by the viewer's movement and gaze, allowing them to discover sensations that transcend the ordinary. Based on the premise of Homo ludens, I explore art as a space for "joie de vivre," where humor, surprise, and chance become tools to expand perception. My pieces are not merely formal structures; they are devices of wonder that challenge the senses and celebrate the human capacity to inhabit the world through play and curiosity.
