Women of vision breakfast: Honoring Carol Damian and Susana Fontanals.
This year’s program brought together a series of special events that highlight the trajectory, vision, and influence of leading women in contemporary art from the region.
One of the key moments was the Women of Vision Breakfast, held yesterday, Saturday the 6th, at The Hangar—an event dedicated to honoring Carol Damian in recognition of her contribution to the visibility of Latin American women artists. Carol Damian, Ph.D., is Professor Emerita of Art History at Florida International University and served as Director and Chief Curator of the Frost Art Museum (2008–2014). A specialist in Latin American and Caribbean art, her recent work has focused on women artists from the region and on Cuban creators in exile, about whom she has written and curated numerous exhibitions. She is currently Consulting Curator of the Kislak Collection at the Miami Dade College Freedom Tower, Curator of the Chapel of La Merced at Corpus Christi Church, and Chair of the Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places Trust.
The breakfast also honored Susan Fontanals, recognized for her entrepreneurial vision and her impact on the artistic community. Susana Fontanals is the Executive Director of CIFO at the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in Miami, an institution she has helped lead since its early years. She has extensive experience in cultural management and organizational leadership, with a career spanning business development, institutional strategy, operations management, and team leadership. Her profile combines strategic vision, executive capacity, and a deep commitment to strengthening the international arts ecosystem.
