Gerardo Chávez López (1937–2025) was a famous Peruvian surrealist painter and sculptor, born in Trujillo. Internationally recognized for merging Andean roots with a dreamlike and symbolic style, he founded the Museum of Modern Art and the Toy Museum in Trujillo. His prolific work and cultural commitment consolidated him as a pillar of Latin American plastic.
