Noah Alhalel

Bio

Noah Alhalel was born in Reikavik, Iceland in 1992 from an Icelandic mother and a Peruvian father. He currently lives and works in Reykjavik. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Art and Design with a specialization in sculpture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) and holds a master's degree in Ceramics and Glass from the National University of Lisbon, Portugal.

Statement

Noah’s curiosity on the concept of "nature" within contemporary limits transforms into a creative game where, starting from materiality and symbolism (past and recent), he deconstructs, assembles, and reinterprets his projects. The elements of landscape, its textures and forms, new technologies, and the rapid disconnection of our senses are the inputs that help him forge a new conceptual meaning for the ideas and works he creates.
The influence of living organisms is palpable in his works which feature biomorphic bodies that contemplate an intersection between the human and the marine. These human-animal hybrids give light to the realm of mythology through these quasi-monster creatures, subtly alert on the impending catastrophe that could occur if human beings continue to assault nature.
In his artistic production, Noah prioritizes the use of fire through clay firing, metal smelting, and glassblowing. The malleable and ever-changing behavior of these elements lead to experience and chance in a path of successes and failures that translate into what he understands as natural.
