Statement
Mariela Aquilio’s work is deeply rooted in her involvement with the landscape; conceived from the feet up and through the senses, it weaves walking, observing, and gathering into the act of making. She works with the subtle and imperceptible in the natural world of her homeland. This process culminates in her studio where, through material exploration, she pursues a specific treatment for each gathered element, expressing its wild and distinctive beauty. By granting these objects new meanings, her work invites viewers to evoke the places these fragments come from and to shift the gaze toward a precise focus that illuminates the natural glimmers that accompany us.
