Vero Santalla
Bio
Vero Santalla is a photographer, anthropologist, and cultural producer. She lives in Buenos Aires and develops projects in local and international contexts.
Her artistic practice centers on photography and explores the relationships and tensions between nature and territory, paying particular attention to the ways spaces are inhabited, transformed, and perceived.
Her background in Anthropology shapes the way she observes her surroundings, while her photographic practice carries a poetic and conceptual dimension. Through the image, she seeks to make visible that which is absent, has been transformed, or is at risk of disappearing.
Her work engages in dialogue with the pictorialist tradition, recovering, from a contemporary perspective, the subjective, atmospheric, and sensory dimension of photography.
Statement
Through photography, I establish a poetic dialogue with my surroundings. I am moved by what lies at the boundary between the visible and the intangible: the traces left by the passage of time, the transformations of the landscape, human presence through absence, and the relationships between nature and territory. The atmosphere created by weather conditions, the high contrasts between light and shadow, and the geometry that emerges between the natural and the built become, for me, visual and emotional experiences that allow me to express, in an aesthetic way, the ways we inhabit and transform our world.
