“Territory of Paper” brings together six Peruvian artists from the Generation of the 80s, born between 1955 and 1961, who have explored paper in innovative and profound ways. These artists, trained in countries such as France, Italy, China, and the United States, have developed their own unique language, characterized by subtlety and expressiveness. Their works, which range from painting to printmaking and photography, invite us to reflect on the coexistence of paper and the digital world.

The exhibition is a journey through the careers of these artists, who have reached great heights of creativity and originality. Their innovations and approaches have revitalized contemporary Peruvian art, opening new possibilities for future generations. “The variety of their approaches revitalized our visual arts, embodying a distinct perspective and urging viewers to confront proposals that departed from prevailing taste. Thus, a renewed, fresh, and irreverent attitude crystallized, capable of challenging the conventions that still reigned in the local scene,” wrote the writer and art critic Guillermo Niño de Guzmán.

The exhibition, curated by Ana María McCarthy, is a tribute to paper, that versatile medium that has witnessed human creativity throughout history. This group of versatile artists has persevered in their craft and today, at the height of their careers, continues to surprise us with their formal mastery, willingness to take risks, and expressive subtlety.
