The gaze that lays bare time. Photographs by Gladys Alvarado

The exhibition includes more than 50 photographs, with striking panoramic views. The show partially reconstructs three of her major exhibitions: El Frontón (2009), Lobitos (2012), and La Lima del Metro (2014).

In his introductory text for the exhibition, architect and art critic Reynaldo Ledgard writes: “The radical coherence between the point of view and the extremely limited selection of place and subject matter leads us to understand that the artist chooses very precise conditions for selecting the images that constitute a whole. This sense of certainty is sustained by the forcefulness of the chosen theme. From this theme have emerged the technical and stylistic choices used in each case: the definition of the framing, the direction from which the natural light falls, and the overall composition, all of which reveal an artist of great conceptual clarity.

In Gladys Alvarado's work, places unfold. Darkness and light, hardness and lightness, intertwine in a dialogue that reveals the essence of time. The ruins, like impassive witnesses, observe the decay of history. Alvarado's camera, like an all-seeing eye, captures the essence of these places, laying bare the relationship between humankind and the space it inhabits.

In this journey through Alvarado's gaze, We discovered that photography is not only an art form, but also an instrument of revelation. A way of stripping time bare, of showing the truth hidden behind the surface of things.
