Antonio Seguí (Córdoba, 1934 - Buenos Aires, 2022) was a prominent Argentine painter, sculptor and illustrator, internationally recognized for his figurative art full of irony, humor and social criticism of urban life. Based in Paris since 1963, his works populated by characters with hats explore the city, overcrowding and contemporary solitude. In 1963 he settled permanently in France, where he lived most of his life, although he always maintained a strong bond with Argentina.
He died on February 26, 2022 in Buenos Aires, at the age of 88, while visiting his native country.
Statement
The pictorial practice of Antonio Seguí (1934-2022) is characterized by the creation of a unique visual universe, marked by humor, irony and a deep reflection on the human condition in the urban environment. Throughout his prolific career, he evolved from a figurative expressionism towards a "neofiguration" with surreal and graphic touches, often related to the comic strip or the comic.
