Bio

An artist trained in wheel-throwing and modeling techniques (Taller Cándido Millán, Caracas) and low-fire ceramics (Arte Ochocientos Grados, Mexico). He has expanded his visual language through printmaking and engraving at the LAMULI laboratory (Cuernavaca) and is currently specializing in Museology at the UCV. His professional experience includes working as an antiquarian’s assistant and as an assistant to the prominent artist Valerie Brathwaite.
His work, showcased in a solo exhibition at Sala Mendoza (Des-Arraigos) and in various group shows across Venezuela and Mexico, uses ceramics as the core of a symbolic investigation into the Venezuelan migratory crisis. From a self-referential perspective, he fuses elements of his place of origin with those of his host country.
In his current stage, he utilizes figurative art and irony to problematize social prejudices and moral conflicts. Through sarcasm, he translates the vicissitudes of his environment into pieces that question the discomforts of contemporary reality.

Statement

My work stems from the urgency of naming realities historically rendered invisible by the 'moral discomfort' of the hetero-normative social canon; realities shaped by decades of censorship against the legitimate right to fulfillment for those of us in the LGBTIQ+ community. My practice is grounded in high-fire ceramics as a core material. Through it, I develop sculptures that are hybrids between the real and the surreal, the possible and the mythological
