Paul Sende

Bio

He was born in Buenos Aires in 1989. His first contact with the abstract was jazz and instrumental music that was heard in his house day and night. He quickly stopped drawing faces in his preschool notebooks to start making geometric shapes. He would spend hours disassembling junk electronics from a drawer at his grandparents' house, connecting motors, lights or whatever to a battery to see what would happen. A little older, he bought sound toys in the "sale" section of the toy store, to intervene in his circuits and get new sounds from the underworld, beginning to cross the worlds of art and technology. In his pre-adolescence he became self-taught thanks to the internet and learned to use all kinds of software. at fourteen
they were showing animations of him made in Flash on MTV.
He studied Multimedia Arts at UNA, where he was able to experiment with different supports and techniques. Thus he began to delimit his search in the fields of modularity, visual patterns, optical effects, light phenomena and kinetic experiences.
After graduating he was selected as artist-in-residence at Betahaus Berlin. After living abroad for a few months and exhibiting in different places, he returned to Buenos Aires and began his career as a visual artist within the contemporary art circuit, creating light installations, programmed objects, image-generating devices, screen prints, paper cut-outs. and paintings, always within the framework of geometry and abstraction.
He exhibited both individually and collectively at the Malba Museum, Recoleta Cultural Center, Betahaus Berlin, Studio Cherie Berlin, Chien Noir Galería, Palermo Hippodrome, Art Basel Miami, La Rural among others.

Statement

My work seeks to generate a dialogue between the digital and analog worlds, proposing a back-and-forth exchange from a technical production perspective.
I aim to achieve a balance in both the device and the composition, using abstraction, geometry, and perception as my field of action.
The issues of visuality particularly interest me because they represent a shared common ground where individualities find themselves on the same terrain; democratizing the experience by using our senses at their most intuitive and instinctive levels.
I believe in geometry and abstraction as a pre-established universal language, a code that has always been there and will always be there.
Experimentation with materials and techniques particularly fascinates me, as it is in the act of creation that I find myself in constant motion, posing new challenges that question my own production. Rather than simply keeping up with the advancement of new technologies, I forge long-term relationships with materials and tools, making them my own, understanding their characteristics and particularities in order to design from them. In my search for a poetic sensibility, I use technology as a tool that I try to conceal and make unrecognizable, shifting the focus from sensationalism to the perceptual experience. A lover of DIY (do it yourself), I concentrate on generating new ways of producing, inventing and creating methodologies for each particular work, without following recipes or manuals.

Additional information

At first glance, Paul Sende's works appear to be mass-produced due to their finish. Closer observation reveals their artisanal marks. The tension between these two extremes is a constant, regardless of the materials—wood, plastic, or metal. Light itself is another material. His morphological inventory is relatively minimalist: he appropriates basic geometric forms through simple compositional operations, rendering them on diverse supports using ad hoc procedures. However, instead of highlighting them, his work conceals the techniques and technologies used, because his aim is neither spectacle nor critique, but rather they are part of his expansive toolbox for producing harmonious yet unstable compositions that evoke dynamic aesthetic experiences. This and other works were part of the MADE IN exhibition, curated by Ana Markman at Pabellón 4 in October 2025.
