Julio Le Parc

Bio

Julio Le Parc is an Argentine kinetic painter, draftsman, and printmaker. He was born in Mendoza, Argentina in 1928. In 1942, he moved with his family to Buenos Aires, where he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1958, he received a scholarship to study in France, settling permanently in Paris. His work abandoned traditional painting techniques, and in 1960, along with other European and American artists, he founded the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV).

Statement

Le Parc is recognized worldwide for his contributions to kinetic and optical art. He is one of the most prominent geometric and kinetic artists, introducing major innovations in light, movement, and perception. His works act as platforms for exploring painting, sculpture, and participatory experiences. His reliefs integrate light and motion through phosphorescent liquids, nylon threads, and moving metal strips. Since 1969, after returning to canvas, he has worked with a strictly defined palette of fourteen colors.
