Carolina Barros
Bio
Born in Santiago, Chile in 1962, she is a designer, graduating with highest honors from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She also studied drawing, watercolor, and printmaking techniques at the same university. She taught at the Duoc PUC Professional Institute, leading workshops on color design and graphic representation for a decade. She has attended painting workshops with Benito Rojo, Cristán Abelli, and Andrés Baldwin. She has received recognition and awards for her participation in national and international competitions. Throughout her artistic career, she has participated in both group and solo exhibitions. She was a freelance artist at Taller 99 from 2007 to 2010 and participated in the annual mentorship program at Taller Bloc in 2014. She completed an artist residency at Art Print Residence Barcelona in June 2016. She lives and works in Santiago, Chile.
Statement
Her work incorporates drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking in mixed-media pieces, predominantly combining woodcut and painting on canvas. She has explored everyday themes, especially those related to the experience of food and the table, creating compositions that include plates, cutlery, glasses, and other objects. More recently, she has focused on creating landscapes that explore the dialogue between nature and the urban environment, particularly the city's periphery and its ongoing expansion. She participated in the Art Print Residence in Barcelona in June 2016. She lives and works in Santiago, Chile.
