Agostina Branchi
Bio
Agostina Branchi, Corrientes, Argentina. 1983
An Argentine architect and artist based in Chile, she fuses the artisanal with the industrial in her work, creating textile sculptures from threads, ropes, cords, and leather. Her practice is inspired by pre-Columbian weaving techniques such as trama, torzal, and particularly embarrilado, using more than a thousand threads intertwined by a single continuous one, generating a unique texture. Through this blend of ancestral techniques and a contemporary approach, her work merges soguería criolla with pre-Columbian embarrilado.
Branchi defines her work through two main axes. The first is architecture, where structure, aesthetics, scale, and spatial coherence are translated into her sculptural pieces. The soft, lightweight forms of the threads reflect her academic training, creating a connection between the textile traditions on both sides of the Andes and her architectural perspective. This dialogue between the ancestral and the contemporary is also evident in her marked tactile and chromatic sensitivity, which enriches the visual and emotional experience of her work.
