Josué Sánchez' Andean Worlds at Galería del Paseo Lima

Galería del Paseo / Lima presents Esta tierra que compartimos (This land we share), a solo exhibition by Peruvian artist Josué Sánchez, curated by Giuliana Vidarte with exhibition design by Álvaro Sánchez.

Josué Sánchez’s paintings are distinguished by their sharply defined planes of vibrant colors and the dynamism of their geometric compositions, which structure the diverse Andean contexts depicted and emphasize the interrelations between the elements coexisting on the canvases.

The exhibition Esta tierra que compartimos brings together works created by Josué between 2002 and 2025, integrating Andean mythology, textile designs, and iconography into paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, and murals. These compositions reveal the coexistence of mountain spirits and humans in urban spaces.

The cities and ecosystems built by Josué display the lines and patterns of Andean textile iconography, inhabited by spiritual beings, humans, animals, and plants.

Josué Sánchez (Huancayo, 1945) is a visual artist and a graduate of the now-defunct School of Fine Arts at the National University of Central Peru. His neo-figurative paintings are rooted in the Andean worldview, which he captures primarily using acrylic on canvas, paper, or walls.

A renowned muralist, his most representative murals can be found in the Church of Chongos Alto in Huancayo (350 m²), the Franciscan Convent of Santa Rosa de Ocopa in Concepción (400 m²), the Place of Memory, and the House of Literature in Lima, among others across Peru. His works are part of the collections of the Lima Museum of Art (MALI), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lima (MAC Lima), and the Christian art collection of the International Catholic Missionary Organization MISSIO Aachen, among others. He has exhibited in Spain, Germany, France, England, Switzerland, Chile, and Ecuador and has illustrated the covers and interiors of dozens of books by Peruvian and international authors.

Esta tierra que compartimos will be on view until May 3 at Galería del Paseo Lima, located at Calle General Borgoño 770, Miraflores, Lima (Peru).
