Patricia Astorga
Bio
Patricia Astorga, born in Chile, obtained a Bachelor of Arts at Pont. Universidad Católica de Chile, graduating with distinctions in 1992. She completed residencies in her country and currently has a Diploma in Art Theory from the PUC.
She has exhibited on numerous occasions, both in Chile and abroad; selected in Biennials such as the XIV Havana Biennial 2021-2022 and the Barcelona Art Biennial. She has participated in art fairs such as WinWood art Miami, Art Fair Medellín, Colombia, CHACO Chile and SCOPE Basel, Switzerland, among others. She has also exhibited in galleries in New York, Milan and Paris, the latter in honor of the birth of Violeta Parra. She exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy of Arts, in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has exhibited individually in important cultural centers such as CLAC (Cultural Center of Las Condes) and the Magallanes Regional Museum, highlighting the value of Patagonia by inaugurating Heritage Day. She was selected by the Urban Photo Awards and recently her photography was selected by the Unesco Center of Extremadura for the Museum of Cáceres, Spain.
Her works can be found in the USA, Italy, Spain, France and in a private collection in Greece.
Statement
This work is the result of constant research on the possibilities of the pictorial exercise to expand my creative work.
I have forged an imaginary, through a biographical environment, where I visualize and rescue landscapes, realities and social aspects to create a work through photography and mixed techniques that react when incorporating light.
I observe the effect of light on the elements of nature, I merge this natural or almost supernatural reality with everyday objects that surround me. In the work I create two realities, which are in different states, but in the same unit.
The materiality that I use as a resource in the creative process are reviews of fragments of newspapers, tickets, magazines, gauze pads, etc. that generate a record of small stories, events and cultural changes that take place in the world and in our country.

La creación de mi obra es a través de la fotografía y técnicas mixtas que reaccionan al incorporar la luz. En esta serie utilizo partes de fotografías que tomé del faro San Isidro, en el Estrecho de Magallanes; una realidad objetiva desde la fachada de sus muros y por otro lado rescato paisajes y aspectos sociales, utilizando en este proceso creativo, fragmentos de periódicos, dibujos, papeles de descartes, gasa, etc . Creando dos realidades, las que se fusionan al encender la luz.
