Gabriela Fernández Madero
Bio
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1960.
Visual artist. She combines various disciplines such as photography, printmaking, and ceramics. Mixed and expanded media allow her to experiment in the alternative field. Since 2004, she has participated in exhibitions at salons, museums, galleries, fairs, and artist residencies both domestically and internationally. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, she participated in the Artist Residency at Marnay sur Seine, France, where she exhibited her works. She also exhibited at the IMPACT10 international printmaking conference in Santander, Spain, in 2018. She is part of the collective “Atria” alongside Laura Cardoner and Carolina Gutierrez. Statement
Habitat-My Walden
This work brings together images from the family archive and natural landscapes, imagining a habitat formed from fragments, from memories, from superimposed layers that form a new dwelling, constituting a palimpsest. These houses that emerge from memory conserve the traces of time on their facades, superimpose, erase, replace, reconstruct the narrative of an era in the present. Fortunately, forgetting allows us to complete and construct new worlds that bring with them new memories. Memory is a zone of opacity where those memories, reminiscences, that suddenly emerge, perforating fragility and recognising the traces that mark a history, rewrite a past that unravels as it is made.
Thus shaping a vision of the present where I return to the origins to build a new dwelling in communion with the environment like Thoreau in his work Walden, life in the woods.
