Introducing About Images, a quarterly newsletter produced by artMedia LLC dedicated to technology-based images, particularly photography and video. The production processes, artistic ideas, social functions of images and the ways in which they circulate in contemporary society.
Gady Alroy (Director), José Antonio Navarrete (Editor), Félix Suazo (Editor) and Raúl Lira (Designer)
Gady Alroy born in Israel and raised in Venezuela, he works and lives in Miami, Florida. He studied publicity and marketing, becoming a pre-press specialist focusing on image development and digital prints. Later on, producing and printing artists’ books as well as processed material for exhibitions. He is also a photographer and the gallerist of Artmedia Gallery (Artmedia LLC), a longed-for space that actively participates in the cultural and artistic dynamic of the growing Miami art scene.
José Antonio Navarrete, Cuban-born, lives and works in Miami, Florida. A critic, researcher, and independent curator of art and visual culture, he also practices art photography and video. His last published book was Escribiendo sobre fotografía en América Latina. Antología de textos 1925-1970, edited by Centro de Fotografía, Montevideo, in 2018. In 2019, the Cuban Legacy Gallery at MDC College exhibited his curatorial project Remaking Miami. Josefina Tarafa’s Photographs of the 1970s. He has contributed texts to numerous books, including Alejandro C. Del Conte. Memorias de un soñador, published in Buenos Aires in 2021. He conducts the curatorial program of ArtMedia Gallery.
Félix Suazo, is a professor, researcher, and art curator. In 2003 he completed a Master's Degree in Museology at the Universidad de Valladolid, Spain. He has worked as a curator at the Galería de Arte Nacional (1997-2003) and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (2004-2008), both in Caracas. Since 2007 he has been part of the curatorial team of El Anexo / Arte Contemporáneo. From 2008 to 2018 he was part of the directorial teams at Periférico Caracas / Arte Contemporáneo (2008-2015) and Sala TAC (2015-2018). In 2018 he was appointed Pedagogical Curator of the XIV Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador. He currently lives in Miami, Florida, where he works as an independent curator and art project advisor.
Raúl Lira is an Art Director / Graphic Designer focused on Graphic Identity Design, Editorial Design, and Exhibition Identities with a broad experience in Venezuela and the USA. In Miami since 2015, he has been working on the identity design of different companies. He received in 2019 the Silver Award from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association (FAPA) for Locust Project: The 20th Anniversary Retrospective and Bronze Award for Heroes: A Tribute. In 2020, he won the AIGA 50 Book / 50 Cover Award for Lair: Radical Homes and Hideouts of movie villains. He was also invited to present his editorial work in Art Palm Beach, 2021.
