“Néstor Arenas. Landscapes and Structures", (2023), a 161-page retrospective book that reflects with texts and images of great visual impact on the work of Néstor Arenas (Holguín, Cuba, 1964). The presentation panel is composed of Dennys Matos , moderator (art critic, curator and editor of the book), Néstor Arenas, (Artist) Claudia Taboada, (Curator at Pan American Art Projects) and Jorge Brioso, (Professor at Carleton College and essayist).

The career of Arenas, who has lived in Miami since 2001, has made him stand out in recent years as one of the greatest exponents of his generation in the field of Latin American pictorial neo-figuration. In his most recent individual works of monumental painting, the large mural for the Musée des beaux-arts in Rennes, France, stands out in the exhibition “Cuban Art: Tout le poids d'une ile” / “All the weight of an Island”. (2022). Among his most recognized personal exhibitions are, among others, “Looking Forward” at Hamlin Creative Space Weitz Center at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, 2018. “Paisajes Transformers III” (CCE, Miami, 2016). “Dichotomous Structure” (Kendall Art Center, 2017). The Pollock-Krasner Foundation of New York, United States, awarded him the award in its 2019 edition, in recognition of his extensive and rich career.

This book, published by DmArtProjects Edition, Miami, has been produced thanks to the Pollock-Krasner Foundation award. Divided into three chapters, it synthetically contemplates the artist's career, from his first works in the early 1990s, when he was still studying at the ISA, Havana, to his most recent paintings from 2023. Each of them is introduced by essays on the different stages through which Arenas' work has gone, written by: Dennys Matos, Jorge Brioso and Iván de la Nuez.

Néstor Arenas (b. Holguín, Cuba, 1964). He graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Havana, in 1990.

The artist’s work features a personal iconography, an amalgamation born of a life lived in Cuba and abroad. Arenas conjures up a conversation on reality with the viewer through the visual representation of landscapes. “My work is a discourse on landscapes where I’ve lived. Each new landscape represents a different reality. I layer images of the past with the present, thereby creating the future.” - Néstor Arenas.
Arenas’ work has been shown in solo exhibitions and group shows throughout the U.S., Cuba, Spain, and China. His work is part of several important private and corporate collections including Forrest Capital, The Mosquera Collection, Jorge Reynardus Collection, Leigh University, and Universidad de Valencia, among others.
Néstor Arenas currently lives and works in Miami, Florida.
