Statement
Through his photographic practice, Miguel Mitlag portrays specific spaces where the materials, motifs, and colors that compose the image are carefully selected. According to curator Inés Katzenstein, Mitlag does not aim for spectacle or the deployment of metaphor, but rather to provoke experiences of subtle perceptual transformation. He is a committed formalist, completely removed from the idea of the decorative unless it serves to imbue a scene with a certain artificial atmosphere. His photographic compositions and spatial constructions project a cryptic philosophy regarding the world around us. His works leap toward a visual hypothesis that compels us to challenge the domestication of our gaze.
