Antonio Murado
Bio
A graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, he quickly attracted the attention of the national art scene, becoming a prominent figure in various competitions and exhibitions. In 1995, he received the Unión Fenosa · MACUF Grant for Artistic Creation Abroad, which allowed him to spend time in New York, the city where he would eventually settle permanently. Considered by art critics to be one of the Spanish painters with the greatest international potential, his artistic project has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions in institutions in countries such as Germany, Canada, and the USA. His work has also been included in important international collections, such as the Philip Morris Collection and the American Express Collection—both in New York—and the La Caixa Collection of Contemporary Art in Barcelona.
Statement
Antonio Murado investigates transparencies and explores his interest in nature through materials—on canvas, wood, and aluminum—with landscapes and flowers, experimenting with the behavioral properties of paints and varnishes. By building up layers on the canvas surface, he achieves great depth and a meditative mood. He also explores screen printing and digital printing, combining figuration and landscape with a tendency toward abstraction while maintaining an intimate connection with nature. In recent years, he has worked in small formats using these different materials and techniques, inspired by Mexican ex-votos.
