Volaverunt, que es el título de esta serie de obras, significa algo que falta, se fue o simplemente voló.
Tiene diferentes interpretaciones. Elegí el término sin mucha conciencia de lo que había volado durante los años de la pandemia. No solo murió gente, muchas cosas se perdieron y cambiaron dramáticamente.
El confinamiento en Perú fue muy severo. Lima, la capital está junto al mar. No podíamos hacer deporte ni caminar por las calles. Pasé mis días enseñando, haciendo yoga y haciendo arte con papel japonés. Arranqué las hermosas fibras washi y las volví a juntar en capas coloridas con diferentes opacidades. Dibujé y cosí hasta la medianoche.
He sembrado el océano peruano. Verde, azul acero, gris. A veces, cuando la niebla deja paso a un poco de sol, los colores vibran. Así los personajes que están en estas piezas. Son alegres y vigorosos.
Pasadas las pandemias y las secuelas, volé a lugares felices y encontré a las personas que tanto extrañaba.
Statement
Volaverunt, which is the title of this show means, something that is missing, left or just flew.
It has different interpretations. I picked the term without much consciousness of what had flown during the years of the pandemic. Not only people died, so many things were lost and changed dramatically.
The lockdown in Perú was very severe. Lima, the capital is by the ocean. We couldn’t do sports or walk in the streets. I spent my days teaching, doing yoga and making art with Japanese paper. I ripped the beautiful washi fibres and put them back together in colorful layers with different opacities. I drew, and stitched until midnight.
I have sowed the Peruvian ocean. Green, blue steel, gray. Sometimes, when the fog gives way to some sunshine, colors vibrate. So the characters that are in these pieces. They are joyous and vigorous.
With the pandemics and the sequels left, I flew to happy places and I met the people that I so terribly missed
