Bernadette Despujols
Bio
Born in Venezuela. She studied Architecture at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, graduated with honors in 2007. Soon after, at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where took classes in architecture, morphology and anatomy before beginning her endeavors in art making. Despujols taught Architectonic Design at the School of Architecture at the UCV before moving to the US to pursue her MFA in Visual Arts at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in 2010.
Statement
My paintings are second hand images, from photographs, some are mine but also found online, sometimes from on porn sites. I paint the world I see, and a large part of this world is images seen online.The Inflatable Love dolls,a feminine cement chests comprised of plastic sex dolls filled with concrete, a contemporary truncated version of Hellenistic torsos; their extremities and heads are missing, but the sexual orifices remain, highlighted, in their original yet impenetrable pink or red plastic
