Bio
(La Plata, 1915 - Paris, 2014) In 1932 he entered the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón and in 1940 the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Ernesto de la Cárcova in Buenos Aires. In 1945 he made his first trip to Europe and began to work in geometric abstraction. In 1954 he became a member of the Asociación Arte Nuevo in Buenos Aires. In 1957 he settles definitively in Paris and in 1958 he joins the Galerie Denise René. In 1976 there was a retrospective at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; in 1962 at the MNBA in Buenos Aires; in 1985, at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid and in 1996 in Holland. Collections in Albright-Knox Art Gallery; New York University Museum; Musée National d'Art Moderne; Reina Sofía, MACLA of La Plata.
Statement
Internationally recognized representative of Optical Art, he decided to pursue an independent path. In order to establish a concise language, based on the economy of resources, a maximum controlled expressiveness was required.
In Tomasello's works, each cube takes on a very particular meaning. It contains the infinite points of its planes, and also the verticals and horizontals formed by aligned edges that return, converge and diverge, and which form part of the work. On the one hand, we find ourselves before reliefs in the strict sense of the term; and, on the other, we realize the white and the strong expressive power of the monochrome. But light exists, always present in its capacity of reflection on the surface.
