Bio
Génesis Alayón (Aragua state, Venezuela 1995) Studies Arts at the Universidad de Los Andes. This visual artist has participated in several exhibitions such as COLECTIVA_21 / (With) figurations in transit, Beatriz Gil gallery (2021). Notions of exile, Washington Project for the arts, Washington, United States (2021). Los del Espacio, Espacio Proyecto Libertad (Mérida, 2020 and 2018). Everyday narratives, Embassy of Switzerland and GBG. Arts (2020). Por Los Caminos Verdes de Humboldt Exhibition - Goethe Institute, Hacienda La Trinidad (Caracas, 2019). 234+2 Lights, Espacio Proyecto Libertad (Mérida, 2019). 14th National Salon of Young Artists MACZUL (Maracaibo, 2018) and II National Salon of Small Format Painting (Mérida, 2016). Genesis' work has received some recognitions such as the second prize in the 22nd National Salon Young People with FIA - Nomads, UCAB (Caracas, 2019) and in the contemporary art contest Trayectoria Inédita, Hacienda La Trinidad (2021).
Statement
Through my work I make a continuous review of the social dynamics that occur in the places where I live, to help me understand the relationships that are built between specific spaces and the people who inhabit them. I rely on the collection of images that I capture during various tours to feed a more complete, complex and conscious understanding of the environment that surrounds me, translating these fragments into a pictorial exercise that allows me to stop in unique situations and from there compose new possible spaces.
Walls, windows, firm grids, soft grids, organic shadows that compete with the rigidity of some structure; as well as rigidity of some structure; as well as portraits, vehicles or notes on mobility, are the resulting images from this the images resulting from this reiterative search for the comprehension of a site, also becoming questions about the formal aspects of the pictorial practice and its possible malleability.
