Bio

Juan Fernández Álava has exhibited his work in national galleries such as La New Gallery in Madrid, Alejandro Sales in Barcelona or Espacio Líquido in Gijón. It has also been seen in spaces such as the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, El Centro Niemeyer, Laboral Centro de Arte or the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias with the exhibition Edad Luciente (with a catalogue edition). He is represented in collections such as those of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, the Los Bragales Collection, or the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Collection. In 2020 he curated the exhibition “Painting in the veins” for the Barjola Museum in Gijón.

Statement

A painter who loves his craft, he is known for following the inexhaustible trail of artists who have approached the genre of portraiture and landscape, treating it as something mysterious and urgent in continuous renewal. “Everything new under the sun.” Juan creates a painting based on layers and glazes in which the motif is usually taken from his immediate surroundings: his daughters, friends, the mountains of Asturias...

Pintor que ama su oficio, se caracteriza por seguir la estela inagotable de los artistas que se han acercado al género del retrato y del paisaje tratándolo como algo misterioso y urgente en continua renovación. “Todo nuevo bajo el sol”. Juan realiza una pintura hecha a base de capas y veladuras en la que el motivo suele ser extraído de su entorno más inmediato: sus hijas, amigos, montañas de Asturias... Ha expuesto su obra en galerías nacionales como La New Gallery en Madrid, Alejandro Sales en Barcelona o Espacio Líquido en Gijón. También se ha podido ver en espacios como el Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, El Centro Niemeyer, Laboral Centro de Arte o El Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias con la muestra Edad Luciente (con edición de catálogo). Está representado en colecciones como las del Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, la Colección Los Bragales, o la Colección María Cristina Masaveu Peterson. En 2020 comisarió la exposición “Pintura en la venas” para el Museo Barjola de Gijón.
