Jiménez Deredia
Bio
Jiménez Deredia was born in Costa Rica on October 4, 1954. In 1976, he opened his studio in Carrara, where he resides permanently. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara and studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence. His work is inspired by the stone spheres of the Boruca civilization in Costa Rica. In 1985, he created his artistic-theoretical system “Genesis,” based on the concept of “Transmutative Symbolism.” He has exhibited worldwide and received numerous international awards, including the “Vita D’Artista” in Italy. His monumental sculptures are present in museums and public spaces across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States.
Statement
Jiménez Deredia is a Costa Rican sculptor known for creating monumental sculptures in marble and bronze. His artistic practice is based on the concept of “Transmutative Symbolism,” exploring the transformation of matter in space and time. Influenced by the stone spheres of the Boruca civilization, his works evoke themes of peace and hope. He has worked on significant international projects, including commissions for the Vatican, and exhibited his art in numerous cities worldwide.
