Silvina Enrietti
Bio
I view photography as a space of transformation for both the image-maker and the viewer. My background spans Visual Arts, Nature Interpretation, and Knowledge Dissemination. I work at the intersection of photographic art and environmental education, developing holistic projects and audiovisual works, as well as giving talks and producing publications. My work has been exhibited internationally, and I have received recognition in both Argentina and Europe.
Statement
Photography is someone else's memory that we can all recall.
Some landscape shots must be taken in challenging weather conditions—amidst winds that make it hard to keep one’s eyes open, shivering from the cold, or sweltering in oppressive heat. It often requires spending many sunsets far from home and from loved ones—in complete solitude—trying to capture (or understand) the light in an endless game of illusions and constant challenges.
I would love for my work to allow people to enjoy beauty without conditions. To scatter the seeds of knowledge by evoking a new memory of a place never visited—a place that becomes one's own from that moment on.
We photographers have the privilege of a dual gaze. There is our own—which sparks a volcano of thoughts, scattering new ideas as we search for the image—and then there are the gazes of others, which allow us to see ourselves anew.
A few days ago, I told a friend that I am only truly happy when I am taking photographs. Of course, other things bring me happiness; yet, taking photos amidst nature—contemplating and studying the light, breathing the air of each place, sensing the communicative power held in every millimeter of a frame’s composition... that, *that* is happiness. Being there, fully awake, connects me to a deeper version of my own existence, allowing a seamless approach to the innermost essence of my being. That split second clearly fuses desire, origin, and form, giving birth to the "I am"—here and now—woman, animal, sensitive, and eternal.
