Bio
Teodelina Detry (1975) is a visual artist who lives and works in Argentina. Throughout her career as an artist, she studied art direction, photography, and painting in Buenos Aires, Geneva, and New York. She has participated in national and international exhibitions such as Canto das Terras Altas at the UCA Arts Pavilion (Buenos Aires, 2025), Cèu Terra at the cultural space Atelier Casa (São Paulo, Brazil, 2024), the Helsinki Festival (Finland, 2020), Poemx Fest (Spain, 2025), as well as exhibitions at galleries such as Cecilia Caballero, Del Infinito, and Rolf (Argentina), Galería del Paseo, Invernizzi Art Lab and Campo Art Fest (Uruguay), and Galerie Espace L (Switzerland). She has presented her work at fairs such as Photo Basel (Switzerland), Volta NY, Pinta BAPhoto, and SPArte with Mario Cohen Gallery (Brazil).
In 2023, she participated in an artist residency at the Museo en los Cerros in Jujuy (Argentina), and in 2020 she published her first photobook, La Anémona es una flor que se abre al menor golpe de viento. That same year, she received the “Book Photographer of the Year” award from the International Photography Awards.
Her images have been featured in specialized magazines and used as covers for books by renowned international authors.
Her work reflects, in a silent and poetic tone, on the search for freedom and the fragility of life.
Statement
For me, photography is a poetic reflection on the quest for freedom and the fragility of life. My practice stems from the need to live creatively and to translate into images the emotions and almost imperceptible gestures I observe in the world around me. In my visual explorations, I am interested in examining the intersections between the language of photography and other media, drawing metaphors between the external landscape and internal landscapes. I seek to expand the boundaries of vision and perception, moving back and forth between the macro and the micro, the universal and the singular, establishing a sensitive dialogue between the visible and the intangible. I aim to create sensory images that traverse spaces of duality and unstable balances, where something is about to happen. My work invites viewers to linger in an experience of contemplation and intimacy between the artwork and the viewer. It is an invitation to dwell in silence.
