Iñigo Navarro

Bio

Iñigo Navarro’s art is a reflection on experience and memory, captured in each of his creations. As a figurative artist, Navarro seeks to portray the essence of the real and the tangible, but also theintangible—what is felt and lived in each moment.
Navarro’s work is rooted in performativity, meaning his art emerges through action, through the artist’s direct intervention in the creative process. In this way, his work becomes a trace of his experience, a testament to his presence in the world. This imprint is evident in every brushstroke, every line, and every texture within his pieces.
A philosophical element is also central to his work, as Navarro delves into the nature of experience and the relationship between human beings and the world around them. His art thus becomes a tool for exploring the limits of knowledge, truth, and perception.
Navarro’s influences are broad and diverse, ranging from the literature of authors such as Fante, Gonzo, Bukowski, Kerouac, Ginsberg, and DeLillo, to the cinema of Tarkovsky and the painting of Velázquez and Rivera. These inspirations manifest in different ways in his work, whether in themes, techniques, or style.
The creative process is another fundamental element of Navarro’s practice. As an artist, he places great emphasis on the journey—the act of creation itself, which becomes an experience in its own right. His work is a continuous process of discovery, exploration, and experimentation, materialised in each piece.
Although he initially experimented with video and photography, Navarro ultimately recognised the need to formalise emotions through painting, which he describes as “the definitive medium.” In this sense, his work connects with the tradition of Spanish Golden Age painting, known for its realistic representation of the world, yet it does not confine itself to mere representation.
Ultimately, Navarro’s art seeks to break free from conceptual constraints, preconceived ideas, and stereotypes, instead exploring new territory between the conceptual and the formal, between playfulness and pessimism.
His work is a constant search for the tension between these elements, making it a unique and powerful experience for the viewer. In essence, Iñigo Navarro’s art is an invitation to explore the human experience through an artistic and philosophical lens—through figure and image.

Statement

Iñigo Navarro is an architect and creator whose practice lies at the intersection of architecture, art, and public space. His work investigates how spatial interventions can activate new relationships between people and their environment. Through installations, urban projects, and site-specific proposals, he explores the perception of the built landscape, human scale, and the social dimension of architecture. His projects combine conceptual reflection and material experimentation, creating spaces that invite participation, movement, and a more conscious experience of place.
