Jorge Macchi

Bio

Macchi’s work creates fictions of strong visual impact that, without hiding their artifice, emotionally engage the viewer and examine how vision operates, revealing both the fragility and power of images. His practice incorporates references to literature, film, music, and art history. He begins with images meant to produce an immediate, sensory experience without conceptual mediation. His works present recognizable objects and situations that are subtly displaced, generating tensions between appearance and meaning. In his installations he explores architectural limits and develops strategies to translate light and sound into material forms. He also works with urban imaginaries and creates site-specific pieces. At times his works take on a ghostly character, as traces of an unknown event; in others, he starts from chance or marginal elements to construct precise structures. Echoes, repetitions, transparencies, and shifts are central procedures in his poetics.
