Desiderio Sánchez

Bio

A native of Bocas del Toro, he was born in that province in 1929. He studied in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Mexico, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. His work has been widely recognized both nationally and internationally, earning him numerous awards and distinctions, including first prize at the Latin American Biennial in 1977 and the Brazilian Biennial in 1959. For the centennial of the Dominican Republic, he was selected by the Latin Network of the Visual Arts to present a traveling exhibition in several cities across the United States, where he also gave lectures and seminars, sharing his knowledge and experience.

Statement

His work was influenced by Mexican muralism, characterized by an expressionist style and a focus on social critique. His pieces are part of important public and private collections worldwide.
