Bio
The work of Iosu Aramburu (born in Lima in 1986) revolves around modernity as an aesthetic, architectural and philosophical paradigm.
His latest solo exhibitions include: Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano (Lima), Museo de Arte de San Marcos (Lima), Fonderie Darling (Montreal). Aramburu has participated in group exhibitions: Museo Amparo de Puebla (Mexico City), El instante Fundación (Madrid), Museo Central (Lima), among others.
His work is part of the following collections: Museo de Arte de Lima; Patricia Phelp de Cisneros (New York and Caracas); Sayago & Pardon (Los Angeles), Lodevans (London), Jorge M. Pérez (Miami), Hochschild (Lima) and Arcos Dorados (Buenos Aires).
Statement
Iosu Aramburu's work from reinterpretations of modern languages, Aramburu seeks to question the failures of the modern project. He mainly explores abstraction and modernist architecture, using its elements as a starting point. From the materiality of his work, he reduces the totalitarian impetus of modern art and recovers aesthetic patterns to allow him to have a critical angle to the paradigm of modernity.
Aramburu studied at the Faculty of Art of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where he graduated with honors in painting. He has participated in residencies at Triangle- France (Marseille) and Fonderie Darling (Montreal). In 2018 he won the ICPNA Prize (Lima) and the Plaza Paz Soldán National Competition. In 2020 he was the winner of the Artus grant, so he will be part of the Delfina Foundation Residency in London. This year he won the MoMA Cisneros Institute Artist Research Fellowship.
