Conversation agenda

Coordinated by Giuliana Vidarte

In this cycle of conversations, current debates concerning the creation ecosystems of Latin America will be addressed. From visual arts, curation, collecting, to art history research, meetings will be established to discuss themes and issues relevant in contemporary contexts. Reviewing experiences in artistic creation, museum and collection work, exhibition production, and publications will serve as the starting point to foster exchanges contributing to the strengthening of networks for dialogue and collaboration within contemporary Latin American visual arts.

Is the future self-management? A conversation around the opportunities and challenges of artist-run galleries in Latin America.

Together with the founders and directors of leading Latin American galleries participating in the NEXT section, this panel will discuss how their experience as artists impacts their business decision-making, as well as their experimental and creative approaches to exhibiting artworks. It will also explore how these aspects contribute to underpin the careers of their represented artists and redefine the cultural landscape of contemporary art.

Giuliana Vidarte (Lima, 1981)

Curator, art historian and teacher. She has developed research and exhibition projects on the relationship between visual arts and literature, the rewriting of history from the recovery of unofficial discourses and the history of the arts and contemporary creation from the Peruvian Amazon. She works as a Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and develops projects as an independent curator and researcher. Between 2015 and 2018, she was curator of the research, management and promotion project of Amazonian art Bufeo. Amazonía+Arte. In 2019, she was curatorial assistant of the Peruvian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale. Between 2018 and 2023, she was Head of Curatorial and Collection at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima.
