Stephanie Guerrero
Bio
Stephanie Guerrero conceives of photography and analog media as receptive organisms in which time inscribes itself and transforms matter. Trained in film with a specialization in photography, her practice explores historical and alternative processes—such as cyanotype and albumen printing—the intervention of negatives, and the creation of artist books.
Her work investigates the image as a living relief in constant transformation. Through chemical surfaces, ephemeral emulsions, and supports exposed to environmental conditions, Guerrero explores the malleability of time and the memory of the landscape. Drawing on images produced during her travels throughout Latin America, she questions the permanence of the image and understands the photographic process as a dialogue between chance, territory, and the traces left by the environment.
Statement
Cápsula
The Cápsula project explores the contemporary use of historical systems of photographic production and reproduction, incorporating current tools such as the generation of digital negatives. Rather than simply recovering historical techniques, it seeks to understand and incorporate their material, technical, and temporal specificities into contemporary artistic practice, investigating how they shape the materiality, singularity, and circulation of the image in the present.
Cápsula brings together works produced through historical photographic processes, such as albumen printing and kallitypes. In 2025, ten artists from Studio Vivian Galban specialized in these historical processes in New York, alongside research conducted in historical archives.
Throughout 2026, this research continued and deepened at Studio Vivian Galban in Buenos Aires, together with specialists, expanding the experimentation around these processes and their possibilities within contemporary photographic practice.
