Soledad Zimmer
Bio
Soledad Zimmer, an educational psychologist and fashion designer, has worked with the female body for more than 25 years. Her research examines the singularities of bodies and the individual and family dynamics surrounding the expectations placed upon them. It addresses the hegemonic physical ideals imposed by culture and the ways in which each individual confronts this reality within their environment.
In her most recent research, Zimmer incorporates experimentation with photographic processes, exploring transformations of the image and its materiality. Through these processes, the body becomes fragmented and abstracted, establishing new relationships between form, matter, and representation.
Statement
Cápsula
The Cápsula project explores the contemporary use of historical systems of photographic production and reproduction, incorporating current tools such as the generation of digital negatives. Rather than simply recovering historical techniques, it seeks to understand and incorporate their material, technical, and temporal specificities into contemporary artistic practice, investigating how they shape the materiality, singularity, and circulation of the image in the present.
Cápsula brings together works produced through historical photographic processes, such as albumen printing and kallitypes. In 2025, ten artists from Studio Vivian Galban specialized in these historical processes in New York, alongside research conducted in historical archives.
Throughout 2026, this research continued and deepened at Studio Vivian Galban in Buenos Aires, together with specialists, expanding the experimentation around these processes and their possibilities within contemporary photographic practice.
