Ana Zorraquin
Bio
Ana Zorraquín has dedicated more than ten years to exploring cyanotype as an alternative process in the development of her photographic work. Her research focuses on the interaction between technical processes and visual narrative, examining how questions posed to the photographic medium can intensify and enrich the narrative.
In her practice, memory occupies a central place, particularly in the ways it is transmitted, remembered, and reinterpreted. Zorraquín, who studied Philosophy and Literature, investigates the mutable nature of memories, their relationship to events considered “real,” and how they can transform over time.
Statement
This capsule brings together works created through historical photographic processes, specifically calotype and albumen print. In 2025, ten artists from Studio Vivian Galban completed a specialization at Penumbra Foundation, New York. In 2026, they continued and deepened this research in Buenos Aires.
The project explores the contemporary use of historical systems of photographic production and reproducibility, incorporating current tools such as the generation of digital negatives. Rather than a nostalgic revival, it seeks to understand and incorporate their material, technical, and temporal particularities into contemporary art production, investigating how they affect the materiality, singularity, and circulation of the image in the present.
