Juan Travnik
Bio
(Buenos Aires, 1950)
He is a photographer, educator, and curator. He is a Full Member of the National Academy of Fine Arts. He is the director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Photography program at the School of Art and Heritage of the National University of San Martín. He was a member of the Argentine Council of Photography, and from 1998 to 2015 he directed the FotoGalería at the San Martín Theater. He has participated in various international photography festivals and symposia and has exhibited and published his work in numerous countries. He has received numerous awards; in 2022, he was awarded the National Prize for Artistic Achievement, and in 2024, he was named a Distinguished Cultural Figure of the city by the Buenos Aires Legislature. His major publications include Materia (2023), Paisajes (2014), Malvinas. Retratos y paisajes de guerra (2008), Los restos. Colección Fotógrafos argentinos (2006), Juan Travnik (1997). His works are included in the collections of, among others: Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA; Bibliothèque National de France, Paris; Universidad de Salamanca, Spain; Musée de la Photographie à Charleroi, Belgium, and the Museet for Fotokunst, Odense, Denmark.
