Bio
(Darmstadt, Germany, 1912 – Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2005)
In 1926, she settled in Argentina with her family. Self-taught in photography, she opened her first studio in 1930. In 1933, she began contributing to society magazines, illustrating the covers of Antena and Radiolandia for forty years, and becoming the main portraitist for stars of the entertainment world.
At the same time, she experimented with the photographic image and was a pioneer in treating photography as an art form. She held her first solo exhibition in 1938 and from then on regularly exhibited her work both at home and abroad. She was a founding member of the Foto Club Argentino, the Argentine Council of Photography, and the Association of Professional Photographers. She served on the jury of the Argentine Federation of Photography and the Foto Club Buenos Aires, and was awarded the title of ‘Honorable Excellence’ by the Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique, amongst other distinctions. Between 1952 and 1959, she was a member of La Carpeta de los Diez.
Her works are part of numerous collections, including the MET, MoMA, National Gallery of Art (Washington DC), Centre Pompidou, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires and MALBA, amongst others.
