Bernardo Montoya

Bio

Bernardo Montoya (Bogotá, 1979) is a Colombian artist, curator, and educator whose practice operates at the intersection of art, science, and materiality. His work explores processes of accumulation, transformation, and decay through layers of paint, assemblages, and dispositifs that reveal time as an active material. He has participated in exhibitions in Colombia and internationally, and has developed curatorial projects that bring together different generations and artistic languages. Holding a master’s degree and working as a university professor, his pedagogical approach focuses on interdisciplinary thinking and research-creation. His work reflects on systems of production, waste, and the memory embedded in materials.

Statement

Bernardo Montoya’s artistic practice focuses on exploring matter as an archive of time and experience. Through layers of paint, assemblages, and cumulative processes, his works reveal dynamics of transformation, decay, and sedimentation. His interest in the intersections between art and science translates into dispositifs that tension the technical and the sensorial, proposing reflections on systems of production, waste, and material memory. His work brings together conceptual inquiry and formal experimentation from an interdisciplinary perspective.
