Born in Havana, Cuba in 1944, Julio Larraz is recognized as one of the foremost contemporary artists of his generation. Fleeing Cuba at 16 due to political upheaval, he channeled his experiences into political caricatures published in The Washington Post, Vogue, and Time. Trained under mentor Burt Silverman, Larraz developed a distinctive painting style infused with political undertones, recurring motifs of the sea, people, and places. His work spans painting, sculpture, and watercolors, exhibited internationally, and has earned recognition from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. Exploring the human condition, his art transforms the everyday into magical, reflective moments.
