Zulema Maza
Bio
Zulema Maza is an Argentine artist who, since the early 1980s, has developed a practice focused on experimental printmaking. In the 1990s she incorporated installations and, later, digital art, combining photographic images with manual transfers and altered prints. She participated in international printmaking biennials and exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of the Arts of Guadalajara, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chile and ARCO Madrid, among other venues.
She received the Honor Award at the Cairo Triennial (2006), the Grand Honor Award at the National Printmaking Salon (2005), the Leonardo Award in Digital Art (2002), the First Manuel Belgrano Municipal Award (1993) and the Award in Experimental Art from the Argentine Association of Art Critics (1994). She received the Miró Printmaking Scholarship in Barcelona (1995) and the 1992 and 2002 Konex Diplomas for her career in graphic techniques.
Statement
The Altiplano is a geographical and cultural region located in South America, specifically in the central Andes. It encompasses territories of several countries, including: Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina. The Altiplano is a region of great natural beauty and cultural richness. The undulations in the Altiplano refer to the gentle hills and rises found in the region. These undulations may be the result of wind and water erosion that has shaped the landscape, creating gentle hills and rises. These photographs were taken during trips I made through northern Argentina and Bolivia. I was struck by the energy emanating from the landscape. A strange vibration magically enveloped me, connecting me with the essence of the earth. This series consists of photographic impressions worked on in digital post-production.
