Laura Viñas
Bio
Lives and works between Coronel Seguí (Alberti) and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her practice encompasses watercolor, photography, video, and sound installation, positioning the unattainable as a methodology: the horizon not as a genre but as a medium. Through soundscapes constructed from field recordings, she makes audible what the image withholds.
Education: Agricultural Production Engineer, 1983.
Master of Letters in Fine Arts Practice (Distinction), 2022-2023, Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, United Kingdom. She trained as an artist in the art critique seminars of Teresa Pereda and Luis Felipe Noé.
She was a member of the Diwö Collective, Glasgow, a network of artists who exhibit in public spaces.
Statement
My practice approaches landscape as a medium. Drawing on fieldwork—sounds, writings, and records—I construct scenarios to investigate the infinite and the unreachable horizon. In Unreachable Horizons, twelve pieces bring together six overlapping, suspended sheets of 5-gram tengujo paper, printed with drawings from a journey to the Falkland Islands and intervened with charcoal, graphite, and water-based markers. The air and the viewer’s movement shift the sheets and misalign the layers: when the gaze attempts to fix the image, it slips away. The lightness makes it possible to register the passage of a body and proposes a fleeting encounter with an elusive horizon.
