Statement
Since 2011, Fernando Brizuela has developed a body of work that artistically problematizes marijuana subculture, exhibiting its multiple meanings and contradictions. These works bring into question marijuana’s tense, unstable, and problematic relationship with contemporary society.
The artist creates objects and watercolors based on a current subject that involves strong and often antagonistic positions. Conflicting images of a clandestine, private, and illegal universe that becomes visible by being normalized in galleries, museums, and cultural institutions.
