Laura Llamosas

Bio

Laura Llamosas (Asunción, 1973) is an Argentine photographer and visual artist. Her work explores urban and natural landscapes, the botanical world, and the morphologies of nature, intertwining photographic processes with digital retouching.

She grew up and lived in several countries—including Bolivia, Spain, and Switzerland—before settling in Argentina. These experiences of displacement and contact with different geographical environments had a fundamental influence on her photographic perspective. After an extensive career in the corporate and commercial fields, she has worked as an independent photographer since 2020.

She trained at the San Isidro School of Photography and studied with artists including Inés Miguens, Ángela Coppelo, Alberto Goldenstein, Julieta Escardó, Eduardo Carrera, and Diego Ortiz Mujica. She also participated in portfolio reviews with Juan Travnik, received mentorship from Gabriel Valansi, and took part in artist development programs with Laura Batkis.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and fairs in Argentina and abroad, including San Francisco Art Fair, Photo London, Photo Basel, The Art Gallery, and Centro de Edición (2026); Hilton Buenos Aires, Affordable Art Fair New York, and Casa FOA (2025); Pinta Buenos Aires (2025 and 2024); and Nat Bio Art Gallery and Palacio Barolo (2023). In 2025, her work was shortlisted for the National Visual Arts Salon at the Palais de Glace.

She currently lives and works in Buenos Aires.

Statement

Can the everyday permeate art? Can art become part of the everyday? What is art if not the practice of transformation? Is art a vital impulse, an instinct for survival? I am Laura Llamosas, an Argentine photographer. Through the lens, I relearn how to look, allowing myself to question and express that which seems to have no apparent explanation. With a camera in hand, everything becomes a potential work of art—an opportunity for something in the world to become something else. The scenes I observe grow more complex: suddenly, they become great adventures, intriguing surprises, or small sighs. Life itself becomes a succession of images that bombard my mind, each carrying its own story. I believe my contribution lies in constructing my own perspective within the vast web of knowledge, artworks, and cultural productions that already exist. My challenge is to communicate my perception of the universe in a world where everything seems objective. In an age of democratized yet erratic information, finding a space in which to reclaim the importance of detail seems to me one of the greatest challenges. Beyond being a tool for expression, photography is, for me, a way of connecting with nature. I portray landscapes simply and, at the same time, persist in discovering something deeper within them: subjectivities that transform the everyday and reveal what lies hidden. My relationship with my practice is deeply spiritual and, at the same time, firmly grounded in reality. The pause of contemplation—both at the moment of taking a photograph and throughout the long editing processes—allows me to discover ancestral patterns and textures, archetypal figures, and hidden beings within each landscape. Whether they are withered leaves shaped like dragons, expansive panoramas, or secret figures concealed in the forest, my images are fragments of personal magic that invite the viewer to interpret matter in a sensitive and fantastical way. With the hope that these photographs may become moments of pleasure for those who encounter them, I invite each person to project their own meanings onto the images and to imagine the stories that might inhabit them.
