Statement
A Series of Stories About the Edge of the Sea:
The focus of my work is an exploration of memory and identity.
My ancestors arrived in the late 19th century from Recco, in Liguria, Italy, and settled in La Boca del Riachuelo.
I wanted to visit the place they had left behind, find some trace of them, and recognize something familiar and close to my heart.
The town was completely destroyed by bombing during World War II.
To arrive and find nothing.
Only the stones covering the beach and the sea from which they set out, never to return.
To hear the waves lapping, like a mantra, a prayer, with echoes of voices telling stories.
The sound of the water—which is breath, life—against the ancestral solidity of the stones.
Lifting the stones as if they were relics to preserve them in memory and bring them to life.
