Bio
(Vigo - Spain, 1972)
Interdisciplinary artist. He lives and works in Lima, Peru.
Studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Faculty of Arts, Specialty in Painting, Lima, (1990 – 1994); National School of Fine Arts, Drawing and Painting, Lima (1992).
His work runs between painting, sculpture, objects and installations.
He has construction, geometry and collecting objects as his main interests.
He has had 19 individual exhibitions in England, Peru, Mexico, USA, Brazil, Italy, as well as multiple fairs and group shows including "What's Up-The Americas" curated by Laurence Van Hagen and "Sorry It' s a Mess” curated by Roya Sachs.
His work is found in collections and museums in America, Europe and Asia.
Statement
Fernando Otero's work runs between painting, sculpture, objects and installations, with construction, geometry and the collection of objects being his main interest.
His painting has approached architecture from the theme of the house and the urban route, likewise the archetypal sign has been extensively addressed in other proposals.
On the other hand, in his three-dimensional work, using collected objects, Otero generates poetic rhythms charged with meaning and memory, which he turns into narrative structures. There are distinguished the series of "rules" with which structural tensions are built, and the "boxes", where groups of dissimilar objects coexist, the product of territorial itineraries.
The artist comments: The entire era of geometric and architectural painting sought to generate a protective/ordering space, then as the next logical step the stage of objects that contained memory was opened...
