Julia Padilla
Bio
Julia Padilla (Buenos Aires, 1991) trained through mentorships with Ernesto Ballesteros and José Luis Landet, and participated in programs such as PAC (Gachi Prieto), Artistas x Artistas, and ABC (Pan y Arte). She has also taken part in workshops and clinics with artists and writers including Nicanor Aráoz, Flavia Da Rin, and María Gainza.
Her solo exhibitions include Insecta (Centro Cultural Recoleta, 2024) and Pariente (Fundación El Mirador, 2021). She has participated in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Centro Cultural Kirchner, and Fundación Andreani.
She is currently in residence at Gasworks (London). In 2026, she participated in ARCO Madrid, where she received the award for Best Artist in the Opening section together with Linse Gallery.
Statement
I explore the role of materiality and its potential for transformation. Like an insect, my movements are agile and subtle; I work intuitively. I am drawn to surfaces and what their interiors reveal. I seek to unlearn conventional notions of form in order to discover new conjunctions through the dialogue between unfamiliar materials. I am interested in the estrangement that emerges from assembling everyday objects—this shift that turns them into something else. Hybrids that merge the organic, the animal/plant, with the artificial. Sensual, body-related surfaces that activate the tactile and generate sensory curiosity. I believe that each object can awaken
